Sometimes you gotta eat the meat

Around this time last year I was visiting my in-laws in Pennsylvania.  I spent most of the first afternoon chatting with my Wife's Father while her Mother worked away in the kitchen.  When it came time for dinner I realized that she had forgotten or didn't know that I was vegetarian.  She was very proud of her lasagna and had spent all afternoon preparing it.  I hesitated,  it had been a long time since I'd consumed any animal and the thought of it was not appetizing.  The reason I stopped eating meat was out of compassion. The last thing I wanted was my Mother-in-law feeling bad.  The compassionate thing to do in the situation was suddenly much different than most meals.  I realized that sometimes you just gotta eat the meat.
